Water well drilling is the main work at Big River Drilling. From our Riverdale yard, we drill new domestic wells by mud rotary for rural homes, ranchettes and farmhouses. Each job starts with a site visit, the records of nearby wells and the county well permit. Then we drill, set the casing and gravel pack, and place the sanitary seal to the depth the county requires.
Next we develop the well to clear out the drilling mud and pump-test it to measure the flow. We set the submersible well pump and pressure tank, then trench to the house for the water and electrical lines. Then the water goes on. We also drill replacement wells when an old well goes dry, silts up or fails.
Depth depends on the ground, and under Riverdale the Corcoran Clay sits roughly 400 to 500 feet down. The USGS says that clay splits the groundwater into an upper zone and a lower zone beneath it. In state well completion reports, new domestic wells here now run about twice as deep as before 2010. The estimate spells out the depth range, the casing, the seal, the pump and the tank for your property.

We look for a well spot with room for the rig. State standards keep it at least 100 feet from the septic tank and leach field. We also pull the records of nearby wells.
As the licensed driller, we apply for the county well permit. Drilling starts only after the county issues it.

We develop the well to clear out drilling mud and fine sand. Then a pump test measures the flow and tells us where to set the pump.
